
Courtney Cockrell
Secretary
Ms. Cockrell is currently the deputy general counsel for a state agency in Mississippi. During the
2020 presidential election, she was on the legal staff of MarchOn Voter Protection Corps, a national
organization concentrating on voter protection and voter education. Ms. Cockrell currently serves on
the board of Registration Nation, a voter protection and advocacy nonprofit organization.
Prior to working for the State of Mississippi, Ms. Cockrell worked for a large plaintiff’s firm
where she secured social security disability benefits for her clients. She also has trial experience
and played an active role in ensuring a positive and credible process for thousands of African
American farmers throughout the country attempting to qualify for compensation with her work with
the Black Farmers Litigation Settlement.
In the community, Ms. Cockrell speaks with students in an effort to encourage them to strive to meet
their full potential in life. She also volunteers her time and legal services to the Mississippi
Volunteer Lawyers Project where she is the immediate past chairperson of the board of directors. Ms.
Cockrell has also served as a coach for the Magnolia Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial
competition.
She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where she served as a
member of the Moot Court Board. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mississippi
and a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee State University.
